Wests Magpies To Wests Tigers: Kevin McGuinness

Wednesday 27 September 2017

One of our real fan favourites is our final Wests Magpie to Wests Tiger of 2017.

Kevin 'Buddha' McGuinness was capped in the Australian Schoolboys team of 1995 from Sarah Redfern High in Minto, debuting in 1995 for the Magpies against Penrith (if a Minto junior debuting against Penrith sounds familiar, you're right).

In 1997, he covered centre, hooker and five-eighth in a demonstration of his versatility, and his mental and physical toughness in playing every game of the 1998 and 1999 seasons.

Buddha got a start at Wests Tigers in 2000 and scored the winner in a memorable 36-32 win over Newcastle and also holds the record at WT for most tries in a game with four against Souths.

Across 231 top grade games, Kevvie scored 83 tries, finishing his first grade career in Salford before coming home to play for Wests Woillongong and Queanbeyan.
