With the Western Suburbs Magpies no longer a stand-alone team in the National Rugby League competition, the journey local players must take to play rugby league at the highest level has changed.

Western Suburbs Magpies motto "Pathway to Success" reinforces the important position the club continues to provide. The Magpies are Macarthur's, Liverpool's and the Southern Highlands, local representative team and strives to develop local talent into National Rugby League standard players. The Magpies have provided sporting opportunities for the Western Suburbs Districts since 1908, and more recently the Macarthur region for nearly 30 years. This local knowledge has enabled the club to fullfill the unique requirements of the area.

The Western Suburbs Magpies currently field four rep sides in New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competitions.
- Ron Massey Cup (Seniors)
- Sydney Shield (Seniors)
- S.G. Ball (Under 18's)
- Harold Matthews (Under 16's)

Junior Players in SG Ball and Harold Matthews are all local residents of the Western Suburbs Junior or Group 6 districts. Many of these players continue into the Sydney Shield and Ron Massey Cup teams. Players that excel may be picked to play in the NSW Cup, NYC or NRL competitions for the Wests Tigers.

Along with Balmain Tigers, Western Suburbs Magpies are Joint Venture Partners with the Wests Tigers giving our players a direct link to our senior NRL team.
