The Western Suburbs Magpies snuck into the play-offs in 1996thanks to a memorable 23-22 victory over North Sydney on a cold Monday night at Campbelltown Stadium.
In a match that saw both teams struggle to break away from each other. The scores were locked at 22-alllate in the game after North Sydney's Jason Taylor, a former Magpie himself, landed a penalty goal. Then Magpies were tackled on the half-way line on the last tackle. The ball was then passed to Andrew Willis and with 45 seconds remaining, landed a 47-metre field goal to clinch victory for the mighty Western Suburbs club and the vital two competition points.
