Wests Magpies hungry for footy to return in 2022

A Message to Members and Supporters of Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club (WSDRLFC)

After hosting successful game day events back at our spiritual home of Lidcombe Oval, Western Suburbs Magpies were disappointed to see COVID lockdowns take away our 2021 Season.

With NSW Looking to ease some COVID restrictions soon, like everyone we hope to see this evolve over the off season into an uninterrupted Rugby League Season for 2022.

We all agree it is important for our up-and-coming Juniors and 2nd and 3rd tier RL players to be training in person and playing the game they love.

WSDRLFC is excited to officially announce that the Club will again field our Ron Massey Cup Team while our commitment to the Wests Magpies NSW Knock On Effect Cup remains as strong as ever. The support of Wests Ashfield Leagues, financially and spiritually, is such an important factor in the Football Club's ability to not only exist but continue to grow, and their support is as strong as ever.

Despite COVID lock-downs and an abrupt end to the playing season, the Club continues to chip away with its day-to-day operations such as merchandise and membership, through social media and most importantly, preparing for the 2022 season.

We are grateful to our supporters who, despite the uncertain times, have held firm in their support for the Club through Lidcombe Oval attendance, membership or purchasing WM merchandise through our shop, areas that are crucial to the Magpie existence and growth.

As we planned, our double and triple header Game days this year at Lidcombe Oval delivered some great family friendly events in 2021 and we hope to repeat this in 2022 by working with NSWRL and Wests Tigers on draw alignments between NSW State Cup, RMC and Jersey Flegg and planning Marquee events such as our annual ‘Return to Lidcombe’ which was unfortunately taken away from us for this year.

Pending NRL Draws, Wests Magpies will continue to play selected games at Campbelltown Sports Stadium (this may include Magpies state cup prior to NRL).

Operating under the Wests Tigers Pathways umbrella, Our Wests Magpies Harold Matthews & SG Ball Junior Rep squads, co-ordinated by Shannon Gallant will be eager to return to the field and build on improvements seen in 2021. It is understood NSWRL will keep Harold Matthews as U/17s and SG Ball U/19s age grades for Season 2022. Wests retain our connection to Campbelltown and the Macarthur via these Magpies HM & SGB Junior Representative Squads and Development teams who train and play in the area.

Our On-Line shop will continue to operate 24/7. Be sure to check it out for Christmas Shopping ideas. Speaking of which, we have some exciting new merchandise planned for 2022

We look forward to seeing you at the ground in 2022 to cheer on our Magpies teams at ALL levels. Such ongoing support bring its rewards both on and off the field.
