Round 8 - Knock-on Effect NSW Cup @ Campbelltown Sports Stadium - Sun 23rd April
Your Victa Magpies are back in the winner's circle in the KOE Cup after a strong 24-16 win over the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles on Sunday. The Magpies returned to Campbelltown for the first time in the 2023 season for a shadow of the famous Fibros V Silvertails rivalry, facing off against the Manly Sea Eagles' feeder side managed by Blacktown Workers. Though conceding early through a soft try on their line, Western Suburbs held tight, working hard after an eleventh minute sin bin to Aitasi James. Wests scored while undermanned through young gun Justin Matamua after Will Smith spotted an opportunity back inside in our Masterton Magic Moment, and backed it up with another after new halfback Daine Laurie created some space for Brandon Mansfield on the edges. The scores held close at 14-10 at the break, opening up when the Sea Eagles pushed ahead in the 60th minute before the Magpies responded quickly through Shaun Blore, another try assist to Daine Laurie. With some strong defence and persistent attack closing out the final twenty minutes, Brandon Mansfield sealed the result by barging over from dummy half to close the match.
Next week, the Magpies head to Bathurst to take on the Penrith Panthers. Both teams are tied in fifth on a congested KOE Cup ladder that has four teams ahead of them tied for first. For those of our many Magpies members based in Bathurst and surrounds (and anyone heading up to the game), we hope you enjoy cheering on the Mighty Magpies!
