The Western Suburbs Magpies shook up Henson Park on the weekend with a statement-making 32–22 win over the Newtown Jets.
We hit the ground flying. A crisp left-edge shift opened the gates for Izaac Tu'itupou, who dove over in the corner to get the scoreboard ticking early. Not long after, Luke Laulilii cracked the line wide open and found Tallyn Da Silva, who danced around the fullback and made it 12–0. Clinical. Electric. Us at our best.
Newtown struck back with a clever grubber from Jayden Berrell, setting up Eparama Navale to peg one back—but we weren’t done. A penalty goal followed by a wrecking-ball effort from Solomona Faataape put us firmly in the driver’s seat. With Kurt Falls slotting the extras, we took a commanding 20–6 lead into the sheds.

We picked up right where we left off. Da Silva again—lighting it up out of dummy-half—found Laulilii, who finished with ease to stretch the lead to 26–6. Enter the knockout blow: Reuben Porter split the line like a hot knife through butter, offloaded to Krystian Mapapalangi, and boom—we were out to 32–6.
That try would prove crucial.
Newtown mounted a late charge, clawing back three tries in a frantic final 15, with Taj Ford and Niwhai Puru leading the charge. It got tight, no doubt. But when the pressure hit boiling point, we stayed cool. Held firm. Shut the gate.
FULL-TIME: WESTS 32 – NEWTOWN 22
Tallyn Da Silva = everywhere. Try-scorer. Try-assister. Line-breaker. The kid was electric and made a serious case for a crack at first grade. Learn more about him here.
60-minute domination. Our defensive intent and attacking sharpness looked sharper than it has all season.
Krystian’s sealer. That final try wasn’t just flashy—it was decisive. That was the moment that stopped the Jets from completing the comeback.
We’re taking this momentum straight to Accor Stadium to face the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and chase back-to-back-to-back wins.
Bring on the Bulldogs. Bring on the noise. Let’s keep soaring, Magpies faithful.
